oooooohhhhhh, those look like a couple of good prospects! are you gonna apply? did you know that i am also a social worker??? it’s true!

    First off, Mazal Tov!

For some reason, the first one “spoke” to me more….

    congratulations!

hmmm, hard decision. The first job has less vacation but more money… the other job has a FSA (I’m going to really miss mine) but ONSITE supervision (I’m supervisor shy right now so having them far away sounds good to me). Working with queer youth of color sounds really interesting.

Honestly? I’d take option 1. Mostly because if Mikey works North and you’re already thinking of moving North then that’s better. Commute is so important — unpaid labor, really. How’s the housing up North?

And if you love your job, the 1 week’s vacation difference may not matter, and you could make it up with comp time…

    what did your gut say?

first, you’re a rock star! i feel like the director of social services fits you better, and would send you on a more compelling job path, even if it ends up being outside of the organization. (but i may be full of shit, remember)

imagine yourself accepting either job. immediate response now: are you disappointed about not having the other one? unless you come out feeling exactly the same with both, i think that answer could help tell you what your heart says is right for you.

what a lovely position to be in! congrats!

First off, congrats galore! It’s about time someone recognized the fabulousness that is you!

I’d do a little investigation into the financial situation of each organization. Will your job or that of your staff be contigent on grants/govt whims or is it hard $$?

How will performance be evaluated? Can you talk to people that work there? How do they feel about the climate and atmosphere of the organization? What kind of attitude do they have towards balancing work/family? Are the medical insurance policies equivalent? Do they offer adoption leave and DP benefits (if #2 doesn’t, they blow big chunks)?

And finally, getting from where you live now to anywhere E in the Bx is going to be a big ol pain in the patootie, unless you’re driving.

Both opportunities sound amazing. Option 1 appealed to me more, too. Only draw back I really saw was the one less week of vacation. Honestly, I have 4 weeks of vacation and have never been able to actually take more than 2 1/2/year. And even then I usually have a laptop w/me and do some work from the road, but that might just be the nature of my industry.

Life insurance can be purchased separately. FSA is nice, but I wonder if there isn’t some way you can put together a tax-sheltered savings account for med expenses with a financial advisor?

Commute is important to me, too.

Job 1 sounds like the better one to me too.

As Chicory said, commute time is incredibly important. If you end up moving North to shorten Mikey’s commute you’ll end up lengthening yours.

Congratulations on whichever one you decide to take.
