If you live in this area you may have heard about the tragedy of Baby Daniella, a five month old ineptly abandoned by her family.
Anyone dealing with infertility feels these stories deeply. But for me there are extra layers of salt: Daniella was on our short list. She has those big brown eyes and the same slightly sticking out ears that I do and just finished reading in today’s paper that the maternal grandparents (who refused the baby due to poverty) are Puerto Rican. Making the baby the same ethnic mix as Mikey and I.
I emailed Mikey: “how many sweaty monkey nuts does this suck for us?”

i read about a baby burned and beaten today… six weeks old, born at the time i miscarried. i can’t make heads nor tails of this world. i’m waiting for the handbook.
