Red tape in a gilded cage

Yesterday I had this crazy idea. I decided to visit our local government benefit agency. I figure that something is better than nothing and my teeth needs a used car’s worth of work done so what the hell

Hell was right. A six hour hell. Beautiful new building, same old dehumanizing bullshit. Never been on the other side of the chair so I can now view it as a learning experience. Had to bite my tongue when a supervisor copped an attititude with me for quitting my job. She was in short a C***. Made me want to get a job as the site supervisor just so I can go to her and say “Where’s you patronizing got my BA from a city college attitude now?

The verdict. Denied for expedited food stamps. Unlikely to get any benefits because I quit “without good cause”. Process takes 4-6 weeks in which I am required to attend a job readiness program every day from 9 to 5 only excused for interviews or temp work. Have to go through all this for a MAYBE. I had an appointment for my job readiness program for today. As an aside: I used to RUN job readiness programs.

Woke up today and did volunteer work at my church. Have three interviews lined up. They can use my tax dollars for someone else. MY self-esteem is not theirs to trample on.
