Inquiring minds

A question:

I am not big on following the celebrity news but yesterday I read some silly article on J*Lo’s baby registry for her boy/girl twins. Twins. Without a history of twins in the family. And she’s 38.

You know my Spidey sense went off: Did they or didn’t they? Who else in the entertainment world have used alternative reproduction? Who has admitted it? I think outside the obvious (M*elissa E*theridge) that very few have admitted to dealing with infertility outside of B*rooke S*hields. But am I just supposed to believe that 40 something Holywood chicks can just become pregnant unassisted? Or am I just being jaded and bitter?

So, internet, please catch me up. Who in the public sphere has confirmed using alternative reproduction (including surrogacy) or to being infertile? Who do people suspect but there has been no confirmation? And most importantly, any idea why this matters to me?

Courtney Cox comes to mind as one who is “out” about her IF. They do make me laugh though, women around 40 suddenly conceiving twins “naturally”. Reeks of IVF with DE to me.

grrrr……I wrote this whole long reply and my computer ate it. But here is the gist: I think there is still such a stupid stigma about infertility. I think a lot of women think they should be able to conceive, and if they can’t then they are somehow less of a woman. That they are a failure. At least, that is how I kinda felt for a while. I made peace with it. And I strongly believe that celebrities should be outspoken about this sorta stuff. I practice what I preach: I am an open book in my life and online. I think being open and honest really helps other people. I can’t tell you how many times I have read your words and others and thought, I am not alone.

And in terms of Miss Etheri&dge and Tammy…Tammy said once that she has PCOS. But she never talked about it. I would LOVE for her to talk about it. Lesbians have so many strikes against them to begin with in the TTC arena. From lack of insurance coverage (because they aren’t technically infertile) to discrimination. And what about the lesbians who then ARE infertile too?

My theory….everyone should keep speaking about this.

Yeah, C and I have talked about that more than once, that so many of these 40-something celebrities MUST have had some kind of treatments. Especially the ones with twins, but even some of the others. And I agree
